If you are a long time Phyrra customer you know that orange is probably my least used makeup color but I am trying my best to get out of my comfort zone and make it work for me. I have often heard that orange accentuates and flatters blue eyes so I thought I would give it a try.

Initially, I wasn’t sure what lip color to go with for the About Face Holographic Eye Paint Total Eclipse makeup inspiration look, so I tried a dark grey lip pencil and layered a sheer peach gloss on top. In the end, I didn’t like the finish so I tried a warmer lip color that I thought would go with the orange liner and blush. Buxom Hush Hush Henna looks like a warm cinnamon pink to my eyes, definitely warmer than what I normally wear, but I thought it was perfect for this look. Which one do you like best?

Why orange and grey?
Recently, Dave and I were watching a drone tour of Iceland and were blown away by the beauty of the dark grey cliffs interwoven with the vibrant orange foliage. I wanted to recreate that in my About Face Holographic Eye Paint Total Eclipse makeup inspiration look. I think I’ll try orange and grey again, and next time I’ll go for a neon orange.
One of the most useful tips I like to share when working with colors that you often struggle with, like orange, is to play around with the opacity and intensity. You might find that a softer tone suits you better than a darker shade.

Diffused facial eclipse expression

First impressions of Melt Cosmetics Melt It Liquid Eyeshadow Vanilla
My About Face Holographic Eye Paint Total Eclipse makeup inspiration look is from my first time using Melt Cosmetics Melt It Liquid Eyeshadow. vanillaVanilla is a pale peachy beige shade that adds warmth to the complexion when worn alone. Looking at the swatch comparison photos of Vanilla vs Fresh on Melt’s website, Vanilla looks more fresh on my skin tone. It’s a shame Vanilla doesn’t look cool on my skin tone.
The eyeshadows I used glided effortlessly over Vanilla, and the Cold was easiest to blend and diffuse into the edge of Raven’s Frost. I’m honestly excited to be playing with this eye primer, and I’m thinking of buying the black shade Night Swim because I’m really loving it so far.
Notes on total solar eclipse
I found that Total Eclipse applied well on the lid when applied with a flat brush and then blended with a fluffy brush for a softer effect. I tried applying it as a liner with Melt’s 96 Eyeliner Brush, but it didn’t apply as smoothly as I’d hoped; the swipe and glide technique didn’t seem quite right. The stamp method, which works so well with the Matte Fluid Eye Paints, might have been a better approach.
Final thoughts
I feel my health improving every day and this really lifts my spirits. After a difficult year focused mainly on my recovery, it’s nice to see light at the end of the tunnel. Recovering from multiple surgeries in a short period of time has been incredibly tough, but I’m finally feeling stronger and more energetic.
