question: Will Luster Products remain a Black-owned business?

A: Yes, we remain a 100% family-owned and black-owned business. Q: In what year was Raster Products founded?

Luster Products Inc. was founded in 1957 and has been in business for 67 years.

      question: Who founded Raster Products?

A: It was founded by my late grandfather, Fred Luster Sr., who owned a barbershop and barbershop on the south side of Chicago. His customers frequently complained about dry scalps and itchy hair, so he took it upon himself to create products that addressed their hair and scalp needs.

question: What is your role in the family business?

A: My official title is Chief Executive Officer of Pink Brand, but since it is a family business, I am involved in various aspects as the third generation of Luster. I work closely with the research and development team run by my uncle, Freddie Laster Sr., on product development. We have families in the management team of the entire company, so we work closely with them, not only in production and operations. My father, Jorie Luster Sr., is not obsessed with titles within an organization and believes that everyone should work together to get the job done. So when something needs to be done, I step in right away to make sure the revenue is covered.

Q: Why do you continue to run family-owned black businesses?

A: My grandfather knew that Luster Products Inc. was more than just a hair care company. He knows that by providing jobs for people in our community, they can become homeowners, send their kids to college, and become car owners. We believe in his vision.

Q: What will happen to Luster’s Pink in the future?

A: In hair care, we understand that one shoe doesn’t fit all. Just like the world understands that people come in different colors, shapes, sizes, and of course different hair textures. We strive to constantly innovate and provide solutions for a variety of hair needs.
