Over the weekend, hordes of costumed characters descended on lower Manhattan for the 18th New York Comic Con, the continent’s busiest fan convention (in the entertainment sector). A few blocks away, the continent’s busiest fan convention (Category Beauty) was taking place. 2nd Allure best of beauty live. No costumes are worn, except for concealer and lip gloss.
The event recognized 357 beauty products that earned Allure’s 2024 Best of Beauty seal. The product was selected from thousands of products submitted and summarily rated by Allure’s beauty editors, who showed up on Saturday wearing a bright red Best of Beauty sweatshirt to lead the crowd.
And those masses, more than 1,000 people, appeared as beauty editors. Upon entering the event, they were immediately thrust into a space designed to resemble the Allure Beauty Closet. There, every shelf is filled with products, tested, swatched and waiting to be taken home and loved.
Around 9:30 a.m. (beauty editors don’t get to work that early), Allure editor-in-chief Jessica Cruel, wearing ruby glasses and a carmine crochet dress, welcomed guests to a series of presentations. “We worked really hard, testing and testing for months and months to make sure we had a great new group of winners in the Best of Beauty Club,” Cruel said. “I hope you learn a lot about them today, and I hope you get a lot of goodies. You can’t take them back, so let’s take as much as we can!”
