So many of you have asked me to review these. As a long-time avid Chanel fan and collector, I knew I had to purchase at least one. I ended up buying some to try, so today I’m going to share all my thoughts after testing them. First, let’s take a look at all 12 colors.

Here are my thoughts on the new lipstick.
The formula is truly exceptional. It is the most exquisite formula I have ever tried. I think this is the best classic satin lipstick ever made. The texture is smooth and comfortable. Glides perfectly on the lips. The pigment is opaque and dense. Adheres firmly to the lips. It has a soft floral scent, but it has a modern and soft impression. Contains gardenia oil and has very long lasting power.
The packaging is beautiful. The Chanel 31 Le Rouge case is exactly what you would expect from Chanel. It’s thick, heavy, durable, works of art, and has a magnetized cap. The glass is similar to super thick tempered glass (like the DuraClear glass found at Williams-Sonoma). I think the pouch sold separately is also nice.
The pigment is also really beautiful. It contains micronized pearls, which give it a sparkle on the lips, but only one of his has visible shimmer. The biggest drawback, in my opinion, is the limited color selection. There is one bright neutral and 11 bold colors. It makes sense that they focused primarily on classic reds, but I wish they had released more neutral, softer pinks, or even mauve colors. Several people said that the lightest shade was too bright, and that the second lightest color was just orange.
I ended up choosing 5 shades to try out and here are my thoughts on each one.
1 rouge beige
1 rouge beige The lightest shade is a pearlescent beige. It’s light and a bit on the thin side (at least compared to the other colors in the lineup), but I like it. This shade reminds me of one of my favorite Tom Ford lipsticks from my early blogging days. It doesn’t look like much in the photo, but it’s much more noticeable on real lips.

2 Rouge Croisière It looked like a healthy coral peach but on my lips it was really orange. A bright summery coral. I think you can tone down the color by dabbing it on your lips rather than swiping it.

3 Rouge Roman
3 Rouge Roman It’s my second favorite shade. It’s almost impossible to apply purple on your lips because you can’t find the right undertone. Most are either too brown, too red, or too purple. I think this is just the right combination to look really plum/mauve on my lips.

4 Rouge Fleu
4 Rouge Fleu A bright and warm red-orange. When I saw the swatches in the store, I thought it was a warm coral, but it definitely looks redder on my lips. It’s so bright that it almost looks like an electric neon light.

10 Rouge Byzantine
10 Rouge Byzantine It’s a brown plum. He comes in three dark plum tones, and they all looked great in the store. It was difficult to narrow down the choice as each one has its own nuances. I was torn between Rouge Byzantin and Rouge 2.55, but decided to go with the browner one. That’s beautiful.
Is it worth the price? I think it depends on your budget and personal preference. I recently talked to a few friends about their prices. He doesn’t hesitate to drop $200 on things like perfume, cashmere sweaters, and skin care, but we talked about how he doesn’t hesitate to spend $200 on things like lipstick and makeup palettes.
I’m not sure if I think a lipstick is worth the $200 price tag, but if you love Chanel or find a color you really like. 31 Le Rouge Lipstick It will make a beautiful collector’s piece. It will be a truly special and luxurious treat. The packaging is truly exquisite and the formulation is also exceptional. Part of me wishes there were more neutrals or softer pinks, but I’m happy to have at least one neutral color.
