It took him four years to develop Chanel Rouge 31, not least because it wasn’t easy to find a skilled glassmaker to create designs like the diamond facets on the lipstick. The road led to Japan, where the glass was carved and completed.
I mean, this is a beautiful thing, right? It’s recyclable in true Chanel fashion, using metal and glass in a way I’ve honestly never seen before, and not only is it refillable. The refill has a protective cap so you can switch colors without damaging your existing refill.
Everything clicks together completely seamlessly.
This lipstick comes in a synthetic leather type case that makes it look and feel special. A coffret is on sale that includes a lipstick case, a pouch to store it, and two colors of 31 Le Rouge.
The shade I have is Rouge Premier. So far, 31 Le Rouge has 12 shades, all made with a satin formula, but the “it” shade takes inspiration from the lining of his iconic 2.55 handbag. Rouge 2.55.
I love Rouge Premier. It has a little bit of orange in it and is the best type of red for me. The pigments are strong so you don’t really need a lot. Ingredient-wise, it’s great that your average lipstick has a few extra ingredients like gardenia-infused oil, maracuja oil, and camellia essence to give it a light scent. In addition to that, it is infused with cellulose powder and mother of pearl to enhance the brilliance of the color. As you might expect, this premium product costs accordingly at £140 (including colour), with refills costing £65 each. here. The coffret costs £315. You better start being nice to Santa!
