Checking In: Happy Friday and Swivel Chair Update!

My friend, where would I be without you? I’m probably buying a swivel chair somewhere I regret it, haha!

Connor and I went to World Market last weekend to test out some swivel chairs for the living room.

As a side note, when I was in my 20s, I once bought an entire sofa online without even trying it on. The late ’90s were the peak of the dot-com era, when it seemed like everything happened online, including buying a couch. I don’t know why I never thought to buy a large piece of furniture based solely on how it looked on the Pottery Barn website rather than how it felt when I sat on it, lol. That couch had been with me for a good portion of my adult life, but years later it would be torn up by her tabby claws and stained with baby barf. It’s a good time.

Anyway, Tangent!

One thing you should definitely check out at World Market is the beige Sherpa swivel chair that caught my eye.

Seriously, what a difference it makes to see something in real life. I thought this Sherpa chair was the best until I saw the floor model.

The chair itself was very comfortable, but the material still had room for improvement. The model sitting on the floor had obviously been out for a while, and what was once a beautiful beige color was now a dull gray, and her cute sherpa nubs were worn flat.

The upside, though, was that they had another version of the chair in teal in the store, and it looked and felt great.

The base of the teal chair felt sturdy and the gliding action was smooth. (Thanks to reader Julie for pointing out that spindle-based chairs can be easily knocked over by naughty children. I had never thought of that.)

The velvet was also very pretty and seemed like a material that could withstand heavy traffic. I’m not sure how they would fare with Rosie the Destroyer’s cat claws, but I read that velvet can prevent kitty scratches, so let’s take a look.

For now, these chairs are the top choices.

During my stay, I needed to buy some rugs for the house, so I looked into rugs as well.

There’s a synthetic version called “Cloudpile” which is cute and very soft. Designed for high traffic areas and homes with children and pets. My only concern is that some reviews mention how smooth the lugs feel. I don’t want people running across it to slip and fall.

Do you know anything about wool rugs? There seem to be quite a lot of affordable options on the world market, some of which have very high reviews. However, some reviews say that the wool sheds a lot of hair. I don’t need high-maintenance rugs in my life, but I loved the thickness and beautiful colors of the wool rugs I saw at the store.

One last word before heading to work! I’m very happy because it’s Friday. This week has gone by so quickly, but it felt slow to get there.

How was your week? What are your plans for this weekend?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
