Checking In: Taylor Swift Week, Red Lip Drama and Work Things

On Sunday, Connor declared it’s Taylor Swift week at our house, so we’ve been listening to Taylor Swift music all week. My new favorite Taylor song is “Bejeweled.”

It’s one of those songs that took a while to grow on for me. When I first heard it, I thought, “Hmm, maybe it’s okay,” but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it.

I also wore red lipstick to work every day as a homage to T-Swift! In the photo above, I’m wearing MAC Retro Matte in Feels so Grand.

When I put on red lipstick, it looks a little weird on one side, and when I try to fix it, the next moment it looks weird on the other side, and when I fix it on the other side, it can start a different part. Just to look interesting and it goes on and on? That’s what happened here. Miraculously, things worked out in the end and I was able to get to work on time.

Work-wise, things are going well. I like to help instructors and students, and I sometimes put my writing and editing skills to use.

The pace is very different compared to my previous marketing/creative roles in the private sector. In fact, people hang out in front of the water cooler. It’s so wild, especially for someone whose only social interactions for years have been on Zoom. When you work online, you simply don’t have time to meet and chat with someone in the hallway or break room. It’s refreshing.

However, while I enjoy the social aspects of my job, I feel like I need some alone time throughout the day. Sometimes I go into the office and just retreat to be alone for a while (I call it “hermit crabbing”).

Speaking of offices, I recently realized that there are things about shared office spaces that I haven’t had to think about for a long time.

(By the way, it’s a little beyond TMI.)

I used to eat whatever I wanted during lunch because it was just me and Rosie in the house, but now there’s everyone else, so forget about that.

I’ve noticed that there are certain ridiculously gassy foods you have to avoid at lunch if you’re going to be among other people. Just eat lentil soup and don’t suffer from the consequences.

The other day I brought in a bowl of egg rolls filled with shredded cabbage, and well, I had a hard time keeping it to myself. I think you know what I mean.

Did I mention that I share an office with someone and the window doesn’t open? Hahaha!

Anyway, overall work is going well. Knowing that you have something stable that isn’t going anywhere takes a huge weight off your shoulders (knock on wood, because you never know).

It gave my mind more mental space to be creative.

I hope things go well. Happy Friday!

Karen
