I ordered 4 colors and the Clé de Peau team was kind enough to send me some other colors so I could try them out. There are quite a few amazing neutrals, but many people mention that all neutrals look the same from the compact. Many look very similar when placed side by side, but I guarantee there are noticeable differences between the swatches.
These eye color quads have a super smooth texture that feels like silk. It has an almost bouncy texture. Each quad has a primer shade in the bottom left corner that feels a bit thicker/creamier.
The pigment varies from quad to quad, but overall I think the color is on the soft side but buildable. I wouldn’t call the softness “sheer” as the pigment is pretty good, but some of the shades do require some build up. I looked at these with a pretty heavy hand over Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer. The shine is not as strong on the eyes as it is on the arm swatches.
beach pebbles 2 is the most natural/neutral palette with a beautiful mix of tan, brown, and pale ivory sparkles.
starlight 7 Probably my favorite is the best mix of peachy pink champagne, tan brown, neutral cream primer, and soft deep brown.
warm sea sunset 8 The most beautiful combination of soft pink/peach tones. Brown/Plum gives a softer look when layered over other powders, but applies more pigment on bare eyelids or with a damp brush.
How it was worn:
caviar pearl 6 is a purple lover’s dream come true with its stunning lavender purples, taupes, and deeper, cooler browns.
ocean sunrise 4 is a cool tone mix of tan and brown.
coral reef 5 It’s the closest shade to my skin tone, so it’s the most natural on my skin. It features a more satin-like matte color than other quads.
If you want a classic eyeshadow palette that’s easy to wear without any fuss, the new Cle De Peau eyeshadow launch has plenty of great options. The quality is great, the color range is great, and there’s a lot to like here. However, I think these may be too sheer if you want impactful color and very rich pigment.
If neutral eyeshadow isn’t your thing, keep in mind that there are also fun combinations with green, lilac, purple, pink, and blue.
The biggest drawback for me is the price. I’m not sure I’d say it’s worth splurging over $110 each (even though he splurged on 4). For similar pigments with price, dior 5 couleurs, NARS Palette or charlotte tilbury It’s better to buy it.
Overall I liked the quality and color. There seems to be a growing trend for refillable makeup, such as eyeshadow, foundation, and lipstick, but having a refillable option isn’t really a big selling point for me. If these quads (compact and eyeshadow) were sold at refill prices, I would be inclined to give a more glowing positive review. Considering the price, I feel like the Natasha Denona and Pat McGrath palettes are a steal.
