The formula is described as “ultimate pigmentation” and “long-wearing,” and offers “shadow, base, [or] The opposite end has a built-in sharpener.
The updated twist-up pencil eyeshadow formula is creamier, more pigmented, and performs more consistently overall than the original Color Stix, which performed better all around. The only issue I had with the Shadow Stix was that I couldn’t wear it for long periods of time. They tended to disappear between 6 and 7 hours, and some were almost gone by 9 hours. It wears better if you apply a primer underneath or set it with powder (i.e. use it as a base).
These were creamy and comfortable to use on the eyelids, with enough application and blendability to diffuse into the edges of the skin with fingertips or a brush. I found it very easy to just buff and pat the edges to set the color all over the eyelid. This is great considering that about half of the range is a variety of neutral tones.

ColourPop Midnight Hour Shadow Stix ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft black with a neutral to warm undertone and a matte finish.
