In this episode of the Beauty 4.0 podcast, the CosmeticsDesign editorial team looked back at the highlights of 2024.

Kirsty Doolan, editor of Cosmetics Design-europe, said there were some surprising surprises he hadn’t expected in 2024, including the acquisition of L’Oréal’s minority Galderma.

“At the beginning of the year, I would have thought they were rivals. That means one company sells Cetaphil and the other sells Celab – a rather similar product… I think this was an important theme in cosmetics in 2024… Unexpected collaboration, watching rivals work together to achieve something that can’t be done. “

Beauty development has been rolled out in the Asia-Pacific region as expected, says Amanda Lim, editor of CosmeticsDesign-Asia, who has revealed ongoing demand for performance-based products, as well as consumer effectiveness and accessibility. He said he hopes for growth in the MasStige segment as he requested.

The growing desire for affordable options is also felt in the North American market, with brands like ELF cosmetics taking advantage of the beauty “Dupée.”

“Elf Cosmetics has successfully acquired the market for registered products. As we know, economically, we see people who feel the purse squeeze. So. People want products they can trust, they know they work, they want to bring results. And they emulate the appearance, atmosphere and scent of their gorgeous beauty I want to. Again, Elf Cosmetics does that very well,” said Cassandra Stern, editor of CosmeticsDesign-US.

Beauty 2025: Looking ahead

The editors investigated how beauty trends will evolve next year, identifying important similarities and overlaps.

Importantly, they highlighted the increased impact of medical advances and aesthetic practices, discussing how it can shape product formulations and consumer expectations.

Amanda highlighted the modern molecules of a skincare brand that combines medical and cosmetic innovations.

“Modern molecular teams look beyond the actives like retinol, which is considered an old technology. What they’re doing now is looking into the world of medicine and doctors. We look at how we treat wounds. A demand for better clinically proven outcomes.”
