Coty Inc. recently filed a patent for a new eye cream formulation that utilizes innovative ingredients to improve skin care results. This patent advancement is noteworthy for cosmetic and personal care manufacturers as it exemplifies a sophisticated approach to formulation development that combines functionality and sensory appeal.

Main components and their roles

The eye cream’s formula is a proprietary blend of two sodium polyacrylates in a specific 3:1 ratio, which the company claims balances to improve spread, texture, and ease of application. The patent application explains that this combination “acts as a gelling agent, providing substantial benefits to the overall formulation,” imparting qualities such as smooth application and a non-stick finish.

According to Coty, “the ratio and combination of the two polyacrylates provides excellent elongation and a beneficial blurring effect,” making it suitable for application to sensitive eye areas.

The formula contains additional texture enhancers such as boron nitride powder and pearlescent pigments, which contribute to the cream’s smooth application and subtle luminescence. Boron nitride powder is intended to improve adhesion and allow the formulation to glide easily on the skin without a sticky feeling. Meanwhile, pearlescent pigments impart reflective properties that create a “healthy-looking eye zone area” and support a glowing, hydrated look.
