You’re from Detroit. How did you get into TV and film?
My first introduction to television and film was while living in Atlanta, Georgia. I worked as a location manager and was able to make many connections, but I was also able to observe certain positions on set to help me decide what I wanted to do with my career. Working on location was great for me because I learned how to provide a comfortable place for everyone to work.
Where do you think your love for storytelling comes from?

My love for storytelling grew out of all my past experiences. I grew up in inner-city Detroit, where storytelling was a tool for sharing our experiences and learning from each other. That’s the beauty of my industry. We can tell the stories of how we lived, survived, and thrived.
What does it mean to be a black woman in entertainment?
Being a Black woman in the entertainment world comes with unique challenges. Although we have many disadvantages, one of the characteristics of Black women is that we are resilient and find ways to make everything around us better.
What is your definition of beauty?
There is a combination of qualities that make you beautiful! I believe that beauty is not just beauty, but how you treat yourself and others with generosity and kindness.
Having worked on such a prolific series, which one is your favorite and why?
Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows. I met incredible men and women who had the best inventions and ideas, but needed capital to keep their businesses afloat. I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for the entrepreneurs who literally took their chances at the last minute.

You wrote a novel, can you tell us about it and what inspired it?
In 2020 I decided to write a screenplay. I wanted to tell a story that people would want to see on TV or in the movies someday. Before and after the pandemic, I think we were all trying to find our way to our next goal. My book was literally born out of finding my way. “Find her way” is the story of a woman who left everything to find a better life.
Who is Diane behind the lens?
What a great question! I’m a woman who loves to travel and enjoy life to the fullest. Travel and fine dining are always at the top of my life list. I think my greatest accomplishment is raising my son. I really try to be the best mom I can be.
What’s the next story you’d like to share, whether it’s film, television, or another novel?
I’m a hopeless romantic. I would love to one day create a hit series or movie that shows how black women are unconditionally supported and loved by men.
As a Black woman and business owner, what kind of example do you want to set for other women?

To other women, your journey is your own and don’t compare your life to others. It took over 10 years to reach the level we are at today. All the jobs I’ve had in production have shaped me into the woman I am today. I am currently the Director of Development for Zeus Network. It’s literally a dream come true!
What is the hype for you? What is your favorite memory from Hype Hair?
I remember the days of waiting for my stylist or picking up a Hype Hair magazine to find my next hairstyle. I never would have believed in a million years that I would be a part of something that has been in our culture since the ’90s.I love black culture so this opportunity means a lot to me. There is. My favorite hype hair memory is when Aaliyah was on the cover in the 90s. That was a big deal for us Detroit girls. She’s definitely the reason I started wearing my hair over my eyes.
