Create a DIY beard balm with a manly blend of natural ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, jojoba oil, and a variety of essential oils to prevent hair loss and reduce irritation under your beard. Whether you’re looking to trim your own beard or want to make this homemade beard balm for the bearded man in your life, you’ve come to the right place!

We’ve created the best beard balm recipe that’s 100% natural, safe, and just as good as any commercially available balm. That’s a pretty cheeky statement, but I stand by it! A healthy beard is the goal, and that includes healthy facial skin underneath. The use of essential oils with powerful anti-inflammatory properties gives the balm not only scent but also skin care benefits. With great scents, incredibly nutritious oils and butters, and natural beeswax, this recipe has every angle covered.

With so many men growing beards these days, beard enhancement products are an absolute must. The truth is, beards can be really good or really bad. There are recipes for beard oil, but if you look into it, you’ll find that beard balm and beard oil are different products and have different results. More details below…

The first off-balm is very easy to make. They are a bit more involved than serums, as they contain carrier oils and sometimes butter, and both ingredients must be heated.

The main difference between serums and balms is their consistency due to beeswax. Beeswax thickens the oil and makes it solid. Beeswax is beneficial for your hair and skin as it helps coat and protect your hair and skin. It also gives texture to the hair. Be careful, according to several bearded men’s sources, adding too much beeswax can make your beard look stiff.

Beard balm helps moisturize not only the hair but also the skin under the beard. Beard balm not only moisturizes your skin and hair, but also adds texture and extra moisture. Since the balm is solid, there is less liquid dripping and it is not sticky.

What is beard balm?

Beard balm is a solid oil product used to condition, shine, and moisturize the beard and the skin under the beard. It contains a special blend of oils and waxes that are perfect for facial hair, different from those used to style your hair.

Why choose DIY beard balm:

  • Moisturize and condition facial hair
  • Keeps your beard soft and shiny
  • Prevents beard dandruff, itching, and skin irritation
  • Maximize growth by reducing split ends and hair breakage
  • Make your beard look thicker
  • Lightly hold and style
  • Tame hair loss.
  • Cure beard itch.

What you need to make DIY beard balm

material

  • 2 tbsp.jojoba oil
  • 2 tbsp.shea butter
  • 2 tbsp.beeswax
  • 6 drops of scotch pine essential oil
  • 3 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 2 drops of clove bud essential oil
  • 2 drops of cedarwood essential oil

tool

  • medium pot
  • glass pyrex measuring cup
  • 4 oz glass bottle
  • stirring stick or spoon

Instructions

    1. Make a double boiler by filling a small pot halfway with water.
    2. Place a glass Pyrex cup in the pot and turn the heat to medium.
    3. Add all ingredients except the essential oil to a glass cup and heat until the butter and wax are completely melted.
    4. Remove from heat and add essential oil.
    5. Pour into 2 oz. Pour into a glass jar and let cool to thicken.

Note

  • I kept this recipe very simple. Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic and has no fragrance, so it’s a foolproof oil. It’s a dryer oil, so it’s not sticky. However, other oils are also great options, such as argan oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and even castor oil (which you can also add for shine). In fact, most carrier oils are perfect for making your own beard balm recipes, including olive oil.
  • You can also use cocoa butter or mango butter instead of shea butter. Both will help nourish your beard and give it a bit of firmness. Butter is a key ingredient in nutritious natural beard balm.
  • Beeswax is the best wax to work with, but if you’re vegan you can use carnauba wax or candelilla wax. Vegan wax is harder than beeswax, so it may take a little experimentation to get the consistency you like. I personally start by using only 1 tablespoon. of wax. Check on it after it has completely cooled down. If you need more, you can reheat the balm and add more.
  • Basically, you need 1/4 cup of oil and/or butter combined and add 2 tablespoons. This is a basic beard balm recipe using beeswax.
  • I also chose essential oils based on their scent. Beard balm is close to the nose, so it needs to have a nice, masculine scent. However, I added cedarwood because it helps with hair growth. This essential oil is optional for men who don’t need to grow a beard. However, cedarwood has a very masculine, woody scent that lends itself well to more masculine recipes. Feel free to use your favorite essential oil. We recommend keeping 12 drops up to 2 oz.

Essential oils and beard balm:

I also chose essential oils based on their scent.

How to use DIY beard balm:

Scoop out a pea-sized amount and rub it between your palms. The heat from your hands will soften and “melt” the balm. Apply as much as necessary to your beard to reduce frizz. This DIY is so intensive that you only need a small amount of beard balm to work with. A little goes a long way.

We do not recommend using this balm on your head. If your hair isn’t as strong as your beard, you’ll end up with a very greasy mess. But don’t worry. There is a recipe for homemade hair pomade that is more suitable for hair on the top of the head.

How to store DIY beard balm:

This recipe makes 2 oz.a dark glass jar It’s the perfect container. Dark glass is not required, but recommended to keep essential oils safe. Additionally, glass is perfect for recycling and health reasons.

can be used 2 oz can If you do not mind.

Be careful not to let water get into the bottle. This may cause mold to grow on your beard balm.

This recipe does not contain any water-based ingredients, so no preservatives are required.

The expiration date is approximately 6 months.

What is the difference between beard balm and beard oil?

For this question, I had to consult a few beard-sporting friends and family and the good old internet. My trusted sources say that beard oil is used after washing your face at night. In fact, the oil can also be used to wash your face, if you are interested in cleansing methods. In my opinion, this is the best way to detox your skin. However, if you prefer to use a regular cleanser, beard oil simply acts as a moisturizer for your beard and skin.

Beard balm is used to condition and style the beard. Balms are usually used during the day to condition the beard hair while adding shine.

Which product you choose is really just your personal preference.
