Foot care is a vital yet often overlooked component of skin care. From calluses to cracked heels, many clients suffer from foot issues that leave them uncomfortable, painful and embarrassed. As an aesthetician, you can provide specialist treatments that address these issues and boost your clients’ self-confidence. In this guide, we’ll delve into essential techniques and skin care treatments for optimal foot care, focusing on exfoliation, moisturising and massage.

Understanding Common Foot Skin Concerns

Foot problems are more common than many people realize and can have a significant impact on a client’s quality of life. Some of the most common problems are listed below:

Octopus

Calluses are thickened areas of skin that form due to constant friction and pressure, usually caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes or standing for long periods of time. Calluses can be painful and make walking uncomfortable, and can lead to more serious problems if not managed properly.

Dry, flaky skin

Your feet are especially susceptible to dryness, which can lead to rough, flaky patches. Without proper care, the dryness can worsen and cause the skin to crack and bleed, increasing your risk of infection and causing significant pain during everyday activities.

Cracked heels

Severe dryness can cause deep cracks in your heels, which are not only painful but can also become infected if not properly cared for. TreatedIt has a huge impact on mobility and overall comfort.

What services can we provide? Basic foot care techniques

As a spa professional, providing foot care to your clients involves targeted treatments to address common issues such as:

Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, smoothes rough areas and prevents calluses from forming. Using a gentle scrub or foot file during treatment can make a big difference.

Moisturizing

Keeping skin moisturized is essential to prevent dryness and cracking, so applying a rich foot cream containing urea or lactic acid after exfoliating will deeply moisturize and help keep skin healthy.

Addressing specific issues

Calluses and cracks on your heels should be treated professionally to reduce discomfort and prevent further complications. Regular use of a pumice stone and a thick repair cream can make a big difference.

Foot Care Guide

Whether you suffer from cracked heels and calluses on your feet, or are simply in need of a foot rejuvenation treatment, this guide will help you prepare and provide the best possible care for your feet.

1. Preparation

Before beginning your foot treatment, make sure you have all the necessary products and tools within reach. Prepare a comfortable area where your client can relax and soak their feet.

2. Foot bath

Start the treatment with a foot bath. Fill a basin with warm water and a suitable foot bath product. Epsom salt is a good choice for most clients, but you can also choose a targeted product to address your specific needs.

We ask our clients to soak their feet for 10-15 minutes to soften the skin and facilitate easier absorption of the product.

3. Exfoliating Foot Scrub

After soaking your feet, gently pat them dry with a towel. Depending on the exfoliant you choose, you may need to keep your feet slightly damp.

Next, exfoliate: apply a physical scrub, such as coconut sugar scrub, to your feet and gently massage in circular motions, focusing on rough areas. This scrub is especially effective for dry skin, as it contains coconut oil to hydrate the skin and natural sugarcane crystals with natural alpha hydroxy acids for exfoliation.

Finally, rinse off your chosen scrub with warm water and pat your feet dry.

4. Exfoliate

Exfoliate for smoother skin. Gently exfoliate thickened skin from heels and other rough areas with a foot file or exfoliant.

To prevent irritation, brush gently and avoid overbrushing.

5. Paraffin wax treatment

After the exfoliation, we move on to the paraffin wax treatment. First, the paraffin wax is melted in a paraffin bath to make it liquid.

Carefully dip your client’s feet into the warm wax and apply an even layer. Allow the wax to harden slightly, then wrap the feet in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Cover with a warm towel and leave for 15-20 minutes. Gently peel off the wax to remove.

6. Moisturize your feet

our Eminence Organic Product support representatives recommend massaging nourishing Apricot Body Oil into your feet to hydrate and improve the appearance of dry skin. The oil is packed with skin-softening vitamins A, B, and C, and contains Biocomplex2™, an antioxidant that strengthens and firmes the skin.

7. Apply a body wrap

Your feet will then be treated to a body wrap, a process that retains heat and moisture, allowing the ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin, leaving it softer, more hydrated and better exfoliated.

First, apply the Mango Enzyme Body Wrap all over your feet, then wrap your feet in a hot, dry towel. Leave the wrap on for 10-15 minutes to allow the enzymes to work on your skin. After 10-15 minutes, remove the wrap and gently rinse your feet with warm water.

8. Finish with lotion

Apply a lotion such as Mangosteen Body Lotion to your feet and massage well to seal in moisture and leave skin soft and smooth. Mangosteen Body Lotion is formulated with a unique lactic acid complex designed to gently regenerate skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion.

By incorporating these foot care techniques into our treatments, we can effectively address your foot problems and improve your overall foot health. We educate our clients on the benefits of regular foot care, tailor treatments to their needs, and provide quality products to ensure lasting results.
