“Every one of my albums is a reflection of the situation in my life at the time. My second album was Would it be selfish to talk about me again?was a song about coming back to myself. I had just gotten my first record deal and in a lot of ways I felt like I wasn’t myself. I had entered a world where everyone was so “cool” and rich. I was surrounded by so many super successful people and I felt like I was the odd one out. That’s part of being young, you know? You’re 20, 21, 22 and you feel like you have to erase yourself to fit in. I eventually realized that what made me “cool” was not trying to be like anyone else. bugmy new album, is about finding joy in life and love for music again. It’s also about coming back to myself, in a way. I was in a very long relationship and when I was writing the lyrics, I was like, “I don’t think I’m in the right frame of mind to write love songs right now.” Cracks were starting to appear in the foundation of my relationship, but I wasn’t ready to talk about it because I didn’t want it to fall apart. There was comfort, stability, sanity, everything there for the 6+ years I was in the relationship. We relied on each other so much that it was so scary to talk about things that might not be right. I started addressing those issues in my songs. It felt like a safe place.
skin care
I turned 30 in May and I’ve become even more skin conscious. Suddenly I look in the mirror and I’m like, “What is this?” But I have very sensitive skin, so I try to keep my routine as simple as possible. When I was younger, I used to get acne and I would put all kinds of stuff on it, but I realized that it was making it worse. Now, I need moisturizers and oils. Especially when I’m on tour, the air conditioning in hotels is always on full blast, so I basically go to sleep with antiseptic on. [Laughs]
I have used cetaphil gentle cleanser I love spraying my face for the rest of my life. Futurewise Slug BoostHonestly, who knows what’s going to happen when you spray it, but it feels good. It’s like, “I’ve woken up!” Avene Cicalfate Cream When I was researching skin care on the internet during the pandemic, I felt this cream was the best for my skin. I have eczema around my nose, eyes and sometimes under my mouth and this cream is the only thing that works. It’s very thick and it’s a miracle product for me. I sometimes layer it with other moisturizers. Futurewise Slug Creamthis is a very light and really good daily moisturizer, or Pharmacy Honey Helloand if I do, I always put Shikarfateh on top, it makes my eyes sting a bit. Oracle of Diu It’s the only eye cream that doesn’t sting my eyes or make my rash worse, and it’s great to have on hand when you’re on tour and can’t get much sleep. Kate Blanc Rosehip OilIt’s very cheap, lasts about 4 months, is very effective, and I love it. Iris & Romeo Weekend Skin SPF 50Mineral sunscreens can leave a white residue which can be annoying. Also, I feel like some mineral sunscreens have a strong smell and are sticky, but this one is good. It’s lightly tinted, but not too strong.

I don’t wear foundation. I never have. I have freckles and I don’t think it suits me. I just put concealer on around my nose where I have little blemishes and blemishes. Fenty Pro Filter in 140N. Pixie’s + Rose Radiance Perfector Although it is a “skin enhancer,” I like to use it as a highlighter on my cheekbones, on my nose, and on my eyes. I love that it’s not too strong or shiny.

At home I’m a Byredo guy, but on tour I’m a Diptyque guy, and I love floral scents, especially since I’m always in messy dressing rooms. Doson It’s a classic. RoseI feel like I’ve become a little more civilized thanks to them.”
