One of the biggest events of May Life Update for me is that May 14th marks Phyrra’s 16th anniversary as a blog. I briefly started blogging about beauty on Livejournal, then moved to Blogger, and eventually WordPress. I have no regrets about continuing to use WordPress. I’m extremely disappointed that Google continues to hurt small blogs like mine in favor of Reddit, Quora, and the big advertisers who can afford to pay for ads each month.
I continue to publish high-quality, unique, human-written content, but Google continues to hide my content under paid advertisers. I feel like I can no longer find good product samples of makeup products. This is Google’s fault because I’m sure I’m not the only one who has trouble finding authentic makeup product samples.
If you like small blogs like mine, please share our content on places like Reddit and Quora. Because these are the only places Google seems to care about.

“The New Menopause” by Mary Claire Haver
Lately, I’ve been feeling very ignored by the medical community, and I wanted to touch on why in my May Life Update. Despite paying exorbitant monthly health insurance premiums, it remains difficult to secure timely appointments and comprehensive medical care. It often feels like pulling teeth to get the support you need.
When it comes to menopause, PMDD, and women’s health in general, I have felt isolated and overlooked because my doctor seems to lack expertise in these areas. There’s a discouraging feeling that if you’re not planning on having children, health concerns aren’t a priority. Even my gynecologist, who is supposed to be an expert in managing menstrual health issues, is often unable to provide me with the help I need.

through my friend Sinead Nolenius-RanièreI discovered Dr. Mary Claire Haver upon Instagram And I started following her work. Her fascinating reel about menopause and perimenopause resonated deeply with the experiences I was going through. When she found out she had published her book, she immediately pre-ordered it. She read it and it changed her life.
If you’ve seen my video no one wants to talk about it, you’ll understand my frustration if you read my article discussing perimenopause. If you read the comments, you’ll see that many others have also described this as a very isolating experience with little or no support or guidance from medical professionals.

How I Manage Menopause
As part of May’s Life Update, I’m sharing how I’m managing menopause. I use an estrogen patch that I change twice a week, an estrogen pill that I take twice a week, a daily testosterone cream, a daily hair pill, and a daily progesterone pill. Everyone’s hormones are different, so what I do may be different than what you need to do. The most important thing is to consult a qualified doctor who can help you.

As you know, I’ve been keeping a daily gratitude journal for years. It literally rewires your brain to be more positive and optimistic. This has additional benefits: Average life expectancy increases (Multiple NIH studies prove this). I also meditate intermittently.
Lately, I’ve been doing a guided meditation with Dave right before bed as a way to improve my sleep. As of this May Life of Him update, I have been practicing this habit for the past two months and have noticed that I am sleeping deeper and sleeping longer. You’re much less likely to randomly wake up between 3am and 6am, and if you do wake up, you can go right back to sleep.
galaxy aura nail
I recently created this Galactic Aura nail polish. I used Apure’s natural short stiletto nails for the base (2 thumbs, 6 index and ring fingers, 5 center fingers, 8 pinky fingers). Below are the products I used and step-by-step instructions on how I applied them.

You all know how important SPF is to me. Wearing sunscreen is the most important anti-aging measure you can take to protect your skin, prevent cancer, and reduce the signs of aging. Consider this a friendly reminder to wear sunscreen. I just had my annual dermatologist appointment. I’m happy to share that I don’t have skin cancer in this May Life Update. Yay! My dermatologist is also a big fan of his SPF products that I use. Here’s what I’m using:

I have used it in the past Super Goop (Re)Setting Refresh Mist SPF 40. Another option I might try in the future is Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF – SPF 50 Facial Sunscreen and Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spraybecause that brand made my favorite full-spectrum SPF 50 face cream.
FUN Lacquer Lavender Platinum Diamond Magnetic Gel Polish
While I have loved most of the Fun lacquer products, I was disappointed by the following: Lavender Platinum Diamond Magnetic Gel Polish. Even though I used a U-shaped magnet, the results are too subtle for my liking. It cured quickly after just one thin coat. I’m sorry. I don’t recommend this color unless you’re into something really delicate.
