“I was born in Hong Kong, but my mother moved me and my younger brother to New York when I was four years old. Growing up here, I wanted to be a manga artist, but I fell in love with fashion and F.I. Right out of college, I was working as a PR manager for Archetype Showroom, and I was making about $28,000 a year, and I was working as a hostess on Bond Street at the same time. I was trying to make a living. Shortly after that, I branched out into other brands like Pamela Love and Kimberly Ovitz, and soon realized that fashion wasn’t my thing. I served as a manager. paperExtra Extra was one of the first experiential marketing agencies; GatheryThere, he helped scale events from small intimate dinners to large conferences like Sofia Amoruso’s Girlboss Rally. However, the events industry was tough and I quickly experienced burnout. I also worked as a DJ on the side. I got really interested in wellness and self-care and started learning how to surf at Rockaway Beach. I then quit my job and opened my own pop-up surf shop in the Rockaways called The Notion. The surfing industry was and still is dominated by men and I wanted to create a space for female surfers.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2019, but fast forward to March 2020, I went to Puerto Rico for a long weekend surfing trip and got stuck there for 3 months due to Corona. The first month and a half was especially difficult because Puerto Rico was very strict. I couldn’t even walk on the beach. I called my friend and now co-founder Emily Doyle, who has experience in the beauty industry, and I said, “Hey, I’m going to do this. She said, “Now is the time to build the company of our dreams.” There is no more time and space like this. ” As a surfer, sun care has been one of my personal pet peeves in the beauty industry.
