I started the week off working Victoria Day. It was a bit of a weird day. It wasn’t busy until the last hour or so and I ended up having to stay late, which is common on holidays. I think everyone just starts their day a bit slower (I call it a “vampire start”). That’s understandable. On Tuesday I was invited to a lovely press lunch for Pixi Beauty, but it was my lunch break so I had to leave after an hour and a half. I always find myself constantly watching the clock out of guilt, which makes me feel a bit unsettled. They’re a bit short-staffed at the moment due to the holidays, so I felt pressured to get back to work as soon as possible. Still, I’m an “old dude” when it comes to the beauty industry and I’m at least 10 years older than most of the attendees, so I had a great time meeting new people.
In the past, there were much fewer creators than there are now, so it was usually the same people. But now events attract a variety of people, the focus is shifting to creators who only create on Instagram and TikTok, and old-school bloggers like me are becoming unicorns. I’m not good at video content and I don’t have the desire to show a lot of face, body, and clothes that are popular among creators these days, so I’ll probably have less than 5,000 followers on Instagram for the rest of my life. Have you ever thought about increasing your number of followers? Of course, but considering how hard it is and how much I make from my day job, I don’t want to devote more of my free time to it. I would try if I had less work, but for now I’m too tired to do it. I respect those who get up early or stay up late to create content in addition to their day job!

I really feel my age when it comes to these events because I have literally seen Vancouver and the influencer field evolve so much over the past 15 years. You might think I am a newbie to press events and this life but I have actually been in this world for a long time and have seen it from a different angle. But I am happy with the path I have chosen. We all know that this “hobby” is only for those who do it for themselves and no one else. I love that I have a steady paycheck and know that my days off are real days off and not just another opportunity to create content. I understand the appeal of choosing to use IG as a creative platform, especially for those who never felt drawn to writing or YouTube.
Not much to say about this swatch other than the color is amazing and matches Snuffleupagus perfectly. I used this a lot this fall and will likely return to this deep sienna orange next season. It’s easy to apply in one coat.
