Best Techniques to Smooth and Remove Glitter *Updated 24/1/30*

Noodles manicures are always all about shine. We all love glitter, but removing it can be a pain. Oh, and I’ve also been known to eat top coats that leave texture on my nails after drying. If you’re particularly sensitive to the feel of your polish, try applying a thicker top coat or a second coat of thinner top coat.

Instead of applying two thick top coats, several indie brands are launching products that you can use after your last polish coat and before your top coat. These are generally thicker and will “fill in” the gaps left by the glitter. Here are some products I use and recommend (in no particular order).

2. Jerous From American Classics
3. criminally smooth Glitter Smoothing Top Coat (dries to a matte finish unlike the others)

6. Smooth and Shine Duo by Esmaltes da Kelly (available in Polish pickup some months)

To use these glitter-grabbing top coats, it’s best to let the polish dry for a few minutes before applying. If you apply the Glitter Grabber too quickly, your nail polish will eat up a bit of the Glitter Grabber, and even after you add a fast-drying top coat, it can still have a bit of nail polish texture. Using it this way requires a little more patience, but it’s worth it.

We also use a peel-off base coat to make it easier to remove. Recommended UNT ready for takeoff, Hit the Bottle Keepin’ It Peelor black dahlia lacquer Because they all work well (I’m not affiliated with any site or brand…I’m just sharing the love). Hit the Bottle can sometimes come off during the day, so UNT works better for my body chemistry. UNT seems to be harder to find these days. holo tacos One if you really need one. I understand that you want your polish to last a little longer. In that case, foil method It works best when you are ready for change. a clip like these Inexpensive and great for holding cotton balls in place. I hope this helps. Noodles Manicure Christmas Queen (3 coats)

It’s my favorite polish and I’m off to a great start! This is a Christmas queen with a clear base polish, metallic red, green glitter, matte white/green/pink/blue glitter, and white matte snowflake. You can also use it as a topper, but I think 3 coats is enough to cover your nails, so I think it’s great. Before use, we recommend inverting the bottle for at least 10-15 minutes to bring the large snowflake to the top. I had to dip a few times to get the snowflakes, but I didn’t have to dig. It has a lot of texture when it dries, so be sure to apply a glittery smoothing top coat.

No holiday is complete without Natalie’s famous white glitter crelly! Looking Fab-Yule-Us features a white crelly base with metallic raspberry/copper/red/green glitter in hexagonal glitter in various sizes I am. Depending on the application, 2-3 coats may be required. I used two thick coats for full coverage, but it dries down with texture from the glitter. For a smooth finish, we still recommend a glitter grabber.

Noodles Manicure Miss Peppermint (2 coats)

Next up is Miss Peppermint, another top pick in the collection. Looking back at my 2022 posts, Miss Peppermint is in the same family as Miss Mistletoe, but this one is definitely brighter and more pastel colored. Miss Peppermint is described as a pale aqua crelly base with matte white and red glitter and metallic green glitter. To my eyes, it looks more like a pale mint green than light blue. It’s like a mint chocolate ice cream without too much food coloring and with red and green glitter instead of chocolate shavings. Is that explanation helpful? Depending on the application and length of the nail, two or three coats may be required.

This is another great favorite of mine. Northern Skies is a medium dusty denim blue crelly (more on the jelly side) with aqua/purple/green color-shift flakes, white matte glitter, and lime/gold iridescent glitter. Look at the depth these flakes add to your polish. *chef’s kiss* Did you know I love the combination of flakes and glitter? And you add a dusty base color? It’s as if Natalie made this for me. Since this is on the jelly side, I ended up using 3 thin coats for the swatch. A glitter smoothing top coat is required to smooth the finish.

Ready to Jingle is another polish that can be used alone or as a glitter topper. I felt like these were a little more glittery so I decided to actually assemble them (and they look gorgeous with all the glitter layered on). A red/grey/copper shift shimmer base with matte white/red/green metallics and orange/green iridescent glitter. If you’d like to see these as toppers, I’m sure some of the other samplers are using them that way, so check out their website for them. Again, in this case remove the shimmery smoothing top coat.

Finally, Very Berry Christmas has a berry crelly base with a holo finish studded with fine red and holo silver metallic micro flakes. guess what! This dries to a smooth finish with just a regular top coat. For these swatches, I didn’t use a top coat to smooth out the glitter. It’s a little more red than purple to my eyes, but it’s a perfect shade for December. This is really opaque and only needed two coats for full coverage.

Come on, everyone! I hope you enjoy the swatches as much as I enjoy making them. My picks are Northern Skies, Miss Peppermint, and Christmas Queen. Which is your favorite? Don’t forget to set your alarm for Friday’s sale! YFor more information about Noodles Manicure, Website, instagram page, facebook pageand Facebook fan group.
