Nirvana in full bloom

Pat McGrath Nirvana in Bloom Divine Blush, Bronze, Glow Trio ($52.00 for 0.36 oz) is a new limited edition palette that has a bit more medium depth (compared to the other two released). The quality was OK overall, but the bronzer and blush were powdery and not my preferred texture for applying to bare skin (compared to other products).

Overview of formulas

$39.00/0.33oz – $118.18 per ounce

The formula is considered to be “buildable” with a “demi-matte and pearlescent finish” that “blurs” and “flawless” when applied. Only one shade (Desert Glow) had real pearls/shimmer in it, the other colors were softer or more “natural” matte and didn’t look flat on the skin .

The pigmentation is medium to semi-opaque and buildable, the texture is lightweight and slightly sheer but velvety smooth and was really easy to apply more or less to achieve the desired coverage level . The powder blended easily on bare skin and over foundation, fitting smoothly and evenly without accentuating the skin’s texture.

This formula lasted for 8 1/2 to 9 hours on me, with neutral tones and deeper shades lasting longer than the lightest colors.

Overview of formulas

$38.00/0.34oz – $111.76 per ounce

The formula is said to be “feather-light and long-lasting” and “builds easily from sheer to devastating.” The cheeks come in two finishes: demi-matte and satin pearl, and range from muted to bright colors. The biggest “downside” to this formula was that it was highly pigmented rather than buildable. So while I was able to get more application ease with a lighter hand, I found that I needed to use a light to medium hand to avoid applying too much. Apply each shade.

The consistency was smooth and silky, light and creamy to the touch. It was a little powdery in the pan, but it glided on better than most powder blushes on the market, but it was definitely a powder-based formula. Whether it’s on bare skin or over foundation, it spreads well into every corner without picking up the base.

The satin pearl finish is bright but not overtly shimmery, so it didn’t accentuate my skin’s natural texture. I wore it for about 9 hours before it visibly faded.
