As an esthetician for over 30 years, it’s nothing new to me that people neglect the neck when it comes to skin care. In fact, I often ask friends, family, and clients to demonstrate how to apply sunscreen to ensure the product is applied correctly. Many times I observe them applying it to their face and what’s left on their fingertips to their neck, but this is never a generous application. What I like to emphasize is that the neck is an extension of the face and is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. take appropriate steps to take care of our necks Every day is very important, don’t get me wrong. However, it is important to note that skin care alone has its limits. As we age, our bodies and muscles undergo natural changes that may require alternative solutions.
So what do you need to know about your neck?
Just under the skin of our neck is the platysma muscle. This muscle serves little purpose in humans other than to protect the deep structures of the neck. As we age, these neck muscles begin to loosen and sag, a telltale sign of aging and the neck band sagging vertically (also known as the “turkey eater”, which is a nice expression lol) ). This is completely normal and I myself have undergone various treatments for this. Some are proven to be more effective than others, so we are here to provide insight for those seeking specialized procedures (surgical and non-surgical) for neck cerclage. is.
I would like to introduce you to my personal board-certified facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Sam Lamb We discuss what modern medicine can do for people who are struggling with visible signs of aging around their necks. Let’s dive in!
Non-surgical options for neck tightening
Botox for long obi
botox The treatment is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. If you inject Botox into the edge of the vertical cervical band of the platysma every 3-4 months, the muscles will begin to soften and become less noticeable. “Botox injections can prevent premature aging of the neck, minimize the visibility of vertical neck bands, and delay the need for face and neck lifts,” says Dr. Lam. “However, for moderate to severe neck sagging, Botox has been found to be ineffective in managing this more pronounced sagging, so a facelift is the only way to improve these neck sagging. It helps.”

high frequency microneedle
high frequency micro needling It is a form of controlled skin injury that stimulates the growth of healthy new skin by creating microscopic wounds in the skin using fine needles. What makes this procedure different from regular microneedling is the needle’s ability to emit radiofrequency waves into the skin, which causes additional damage and results in thicker, smoother skin. “For non-surgical treatments, I think radiofrequency microneedling can help improve skin tone and appearance,” says Dr. Lam.
This form of microneedling treatment is also a common treatment used by acne scar specialists, but is it worth it?
mesobotox
mesobotox It is a cosmetic procedure that uses microneedles to inject small amounts of diluted Botox throughout the face, usually in the T-zone. Cares for skin conditions such as pores, texture, tone, wrinkles, and horizontal lines. “Unfortunately, even though mesobotox is the most powerful method of skin rejuvenation, safe for all skin types, with no long-term risks, and with deep, long-lasting results, most people in the U.S. still hasn’t evaluated mesobotox. There’s little downtime,” says Dr. Lam, adding that it is preferable to radiofrequency microneedling because it achieves similar goals with less subcutaneous scarring. .
Kibera
Kibera This is a non-surgical injection technique that targets the fat under the chin. According to Dr. Lam, any type of reduction in subcutaneous fat in the neck is a mistake. “The problem with neck bloating is actually not subcutaneous (just under the skin above), but in the deep plane of the platysma muscle,” Dr. Lam said, adding that the procedure is associated with complications such as premature birth. He added that it was dangerous. aging. This procedure exposes the underlying platysma but does not provide significant improvement.
Other minimally invasive surgeries
There are other non-surgical treatments, such as Ulthera and Thermage, but Dr Lam advises that these are “less effective at rejuvenating the neck and can leave unexpected scarring under the skin.” Masu. Although popular in the past, minimally invasive surgeries like thread lifts can do more harm than good, he says.
When it comes to laser treatment, it is important to be careful. Lasers, especially all types of ablative lasers (lasers that burn the skin), increase the risk of scarring because the neck does not have enough sebaceous glands.

Neck tightening surgery options
liposuction
liposuction is a cosmetic procedure aimed at removing unwanted fat from the body (and neck!) and is one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the world. However, Dr. Lam believes that any use of liposuction is just as problematic as Kybella.
neck lift and face lift
Neck and facelifts are specifically designed to address sagging. and they have come a long way. According to Dr. Lamb, a neck lift is the preferred surgical option and can be performed alone or in conjunction with a facelift. Wondering if you’re a good candidate for this procedure? Dr. Lam says people who are approaching or over 40, or who are dealing with sagging along the jawline, should avoid excessive He states that it is effective as long as there is no bloating in the neck. “An easy way to tell if you need a deep neck lift is to simply pull on the neck tissue with your fingers. If you still feel bloated, a deep neck lift combined with a facelift is the best option.” Dr. Lam says. “However, if the sagging is completely resolved, a standard deep facelift may be sufficient.”

Topical options for neck tightening
Sagging skin is a natural (and normal!) part of aging, but there are things we can do about it. delay that. My best advice to anyone who wants to slow down the onset of sagging is to use sunscreen. Active skin care ingredients that promote elasticity.daily application SPF Applying it to your neck and face is the best way to protect your skin from the sun, which is the number one cause of premature aging.I also love using triple berry smoothing scrub Physically exfoliating your neck at least twice a week is very important to keep your neck looking smooth.
Steps I took to strangle myself
I first thought about getting neck surgery when I heard about a client’s experience with Botox for platysmal bands. After nine years of having a low amount of body fat and clenching my jaw tightly while doing CrossFit, I had developed a pretty noticeable platysma. (This wide band becomes more noticeable for people like me who lift weights or make facial expressions while doing so.) Although I was diligent about sunscreen and anti-aging care, as I got older, the band became more noticeable. I felt that it was becoming unsightly. This prompted me to look for a solution.
When I started seeing Dr. Lam, he started injecting me with a small amount of Botox to tighten my platysma muscles. However, due to my long history of weightlifting, Botox did not have the desired effect. That’s when we decided to move forward with surgery, specifically platysma plasty. The surgery required an incision under the jaw and anesthesia. Overall, there was a clear improvement. My platysma didn’t completely disappear, probably due to the fact that I still continue to lift weights and have less body fat, but I’m very happy with the results.
Overall, there are several effective surgical and non-surgical methods to rejuvenate and tighten the neck, including Botox, radiofrequency microneedling, Mesobotox, and neck and facelifts. Now, which one is right for you? It depends on the individual’s anatomy, age, lifestyle, etc. In my case, with an active lifestyle and low body weight, that meant platysma plasty. A doctor who can research your surgeon and guide you in the direction of the surgery that’s best for you, even if that means forgoing surgery altogether due to budget constraints, problematic surgeries, or limited desire for surgery. It is important to find out.
