Last weekend, Connor and I went on a raspberry picking adventure at Pick Farm.

Have you ever been to a pick-your-own farm? There are quite a few here and they’re a lot of fun, especially with kids.

Boring Farm (yes, that’s the name)Located in the rural town of Sebastapol, about 30 minutes north of Marin County, this farm lets you pick as many raspberries as you like.

Here’s how it works: you book online, pay for your parking pass, and then on the day of your adventure, arrive at the designated time by 12pm.

Before entering the farm, we get a short lesson from the owner, Rachel, on how and where to pick raspberries, and which varieties have more or less thorns. We chose the area with the fewest thorns!

The correct way to eat raspberries

Owner Rachel suggests that the best way to crack a raspberry is to use your tongue and press it against the roof of your mouth, which maximizes the flavor and leaves fewer seeds stuck between your teeth. Who knew?

Another thing I learned from Rachel is that it’s wise to wear boots that cover your ankles when picking raspberries. I was wearing cropped jeans and no-show socks, and my ankles kept getting stabbed by the plants.

Anyway, you’re given a box and you fill it with as many berries as you like, and when you’re done, you pay per pound.

Oh, the register also has raspberry snacks available, like raspberry lemonade and raspberry popsicles – Connor chose the chocolate-covered raspberry popsicle.

If you wish, you can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy by the pond and then interact with the cows that live on the property.

One last thing: there isn’t much shade in the picking areas, so wear a hat. I also recommend taking allergy medicine beforehand or bringing it with you. I had a terrible allergy attack that day and could barely move after I got home. Yikes! Still, it’s a fun activity if you’re in Sonoma County and want to spend some time outdoors.
