If you haven’t heard Prideyou’re not alone. I’ve spent half my life as a beauty editor and written countless skin health articles and skin care product roundups, but I’d never heard of it until TikTok started buzzing about it, specifically as a spot-on acne treatment.
Many users of the clock app Posted a review on how to use PRID To combat the most troubling shortcomings; 1 video The video, which has more than 100,000 likes, shows PRID showing some of the elaborate methods users turn to to “cure painful under-skin acne overnight.” She scoops some brown ointment from the can with a Q-tip, notices that it “feels like earwax” (which she says is true), applies it to the pimple between her eyebrows, and covers it overnight with a small band-aid.
But while some people believe PRIDs can help with acne, they’re not intended to treat it. So is PRID your skincare secret, or should you stick with regular spot treatments? We asked dermatologists for their opinion.

What is PRID?
Pride It’s in all caps because it’s actually an acronym. According to the Hyland’s Naturals product’s packaging, its full name is Pain Relief & Instant Drawing Salve. The deep orange can contains just under an ounce of goo, and the label says it “helps pull out splinter and ingrown hairs and temporarily relieves pain, itching and irritation caused by boils, minor skin rashes, insect bites, superficial cuts and scratches.”
But wait. teeth Firming ointments? Sounds really old-fashioned, right? “Firming ointments generally work by moisturizing and softening the skin,” says a board-certified dermatologist. Brendan Camp“By softening the skin, especially the thick, tough skin on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, the ointment may help foreign bodies pass through the skin more easily.”
So while it’s understandable why some people keep this in their toolbox for those nasty thorn pricks, its effectiveness against acne is less obvious.
Why do people use PRID for acne?
While acne may be considered a “mild skin rash,” PRID isn’t specifically indicated for acne. However, some of the ingredients in PRID have earned it the trust of many people hoping to get rid of larger pimples quickly.
