Starbucks Medicine Ball Tea, also known as Honey Citrus Mint Tea, can boost your immune system and soothe sore throats during flu season. It contains two types of tea, honey and lemonade, and can be enjoyed hot. I’m making my own version of a medicine ball. Mine is a little more healthy, but just as good at relieving cold symptoms. My Starbucks Medicine Ball recipe is made with simple ingredients, has significantly less sugar than the original, and is a must-have hot drink for those days when you’re not feeling so great.

What is a Starbucks medicine ball?

Medicine Ball is a tea offered by Starbucks that was created in 2017 and could only be found as a secret menu item at Starbucks. It is currently appearing on the regular menu as “Honey Citrus Mint Tea.” The ingredients for the original Starbucks Medicine Ball drink were Tivana Peach Trenchility Tea and Tivana Jade Citrus Mint Tea, steamed lemonade, and a dollop of honey. Now that Tibana tea is no longer available, Starbucks is using a different, undisclosed version of the tea bag. The website says it contains “infusions” of apple, green tea, rose hips, lemon, verbena, spearmint, natural chamomile flowers, licorice, lemongrass and natural flavors. Served as a hot drink.

Why make your own medicine ball?

The number one reason I make medicine balls at home is to significantly reduce the sugar content. According to the Starbucks website, Honey Citrus Mint Tea contains 30 grams of sugar because it contains steamed lemonade. My version is less sweet, but actually beneficial to the body when fighting a cold. Additionally, as you can see from the ingredient list, there are some other questionable items to avoid when you’re sick.

Another great reason to make your own medicine ball tea is to save money. $4.60 for 16 oz. I think herbal tea will pass. We recommend making medicine balls at home for a fraction of the price.

I also like to customize my herbal tea selection to suit my mood at the time. There are lots of really great options that work just as well with lemon or honey.

By making your own medicine ball tea, you can make it as healthy as possible using fresh lemons and high-quality honey. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which are very beneficial to your immune system.

The last reason is that you have all these ingredients on hand and can easily make medicine balls at home anytime.

  • 1 peppermint green tea tea bag
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon raw honey

Instructions

    1. Add 1 tbsp. Pour raw honey into your favorite mug.
    2. Add 2 tea bags.
    3. Steep the tea in boiling water.
    4. Using a lemon juicer, add the juice of half a lemon.
    5. Stir and enjoy.

Optional and Alternative Ingredients:

  • If you want a sweeter drink, you can add honey according to your preference.
  • I like to add fresh mint when steeping tea. You can also add a drop of organic peppermint essential oil.
  • Another optional ingredient is to add a few slices of ginger to the tea to increase its medicinal properties. However, be aware that ginger is spicy and can irritate your throat.
  • If you don’t have fresh lemons on hand, you can use lemon juice, but keep in mind that fresh is always best.
