The Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress will be returning as host of the BET Awards this year, in response to popular demand, as announced by BET on Monday, June 3. In a press statement, Henson expressed her excitement to host the BET Awards for the third time, saying, “I am thrilled to be returning as host of the BET Awards for the third time and look forward to celebrating my peers and honoring the impact our culture has had on entertainment.”
The actress, a six-time BET Award winner, will once again host the annual ceremony, which will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 30. Known for her infectious smile, personality and aura, the star will host the BET Awards, culture’s biggest night celebrating Black creativity.
The event serves as a platform to celebrate the best aspects of the Black experience, showcasing music, creativity and sportsmanship while driving social change. This year’s BET Awards will feature performances from Common, Glorilla, Ratt, Muni Long, Sexy Red, Shaboozie and Victoria Monette, with more artists to be announced. Additionally, R&B icon Usher will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his musical legacy.
Leading up to the awards ceremony, the BET Experience will run from Thursday, June 26th to Sunday, June 30th, and will feature performances from Queen Latifah, Davido, Common, Gunna, The Roots, Cardi B, and more.
The 2024 BET Awards will air live on Sunday, June 30 at 8pm ET/PT.
