Taraji P. Henson Henson is in her third year as host of the BET Awards, and with that comes a lot of exciting changes. Henson reprised her role as host. She opened the show with a parody of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (more on that later), spoke out against Donald Trump, played the banjo, and had many other memorable moments. She also encouraged viewers to “show up” in November with their ballots. “This isn’t just about the presidential election. It’s time to play chess, not checkers,” she said on the show. Her passionate speech“This is about making decisions that will affect us as human beings. Our careers, the next generation… They’re attacking our most vulnerable citizens.” Henson also mentioned Donald Trump’s Project 2025 plan, a conservative policy that could have a major impact on government as we know it if he wins the 2024 presidential election. “I’m not trying to scare us, I’m trying to inform us,” she said. “There are three Supreme Court seats open, and we need those seats, or we won’t be protected.”
