Materials that may be used in your own glass cleaners:

With so many homemade window vacuum recipes floating around the internet and Pinterest, it can be difficult to decide which is best. Below we have compiled some of the popular natural ingredients options for cleaning glass. My recipes are perfect for me, but you may want to try other additives depending on your specific needs.

  • Distilled water It’s the best as it is usually found in hard water and does not contain any minerals that can cause water stains.
  • Friction alcohol It quickly dissolves streaks and is a powerful solvent and disinfectant.
  • White vinegar It contains acetic acid, which helps to break down mineral deposits, water spots and stubborn stains without damaging the surface.
  • Corn Starch Can be used as a gentle abrasive to help remove stubborn particles from dirty windows.
  • baking soda It is a more abrasive material, but also helps to remove mineral deposits, film-like residues and other particles. Please use with caution. For major hard water spots, paste and rub it on the window instead of adding it to the spray.
  • Essential oil It helps to dissolve oil and greasy stains, and customizes your homemade solution to give you a streak-free finish. Citrus essential oils in particular have cleansing properties.
  • Liquid dish soapvery reserved use can remove grease and build-up, but if too much is added, streak can become an issue. Dawn Dish Soap is the best commercial dish soap when it comes to degreasing.
  • Lemon juice It is mildly acidic and easily cuts grease and grime.

When adding essential oils to cleaning products, I compromise on the quality of the essential oils. I’ll buy 4 oz. Bottle from this Use only with branded and DIY cleaning products. You can see that the scent doesn’t compare to the high quality of essential oils, but when it comes to household chores and DIY cleaning products, I prefer to save money like this. I’ve remade this product over and over again, so that makes sense. If you’re just trying out this DIY, feel free to use high quality oils if it’s what you have. Once you’ve decided whether this is a remake or not, you can consider buying a larger bottle of essential oils that are cheaper.

This recipe makes 16 oz. It contains half the vinegar, so it smells at first, but dissipates after a few minutes of cleaning. If you want to make an alcohol-based recipe to avoid the smell of vinegar, see below.

Tips and tips for a streakless sparkle:

  • Use the right tools. Microfiber or lint-free fabrics are best. The squeegee is also a great addition. Paper towels actually leave behind dust and lint. Believe it or not, the coffee filter works well too!
  • Avoid cleaning your windows in the heat of the day. Hot glass can cause glass cleaner spray to dry too quickly, leaving stripes and spots behind. Cloudy days are especially good days for cleaning windows outside.
