Spring is an era where people try to understand the world through renewal, optimism, and in the case of the biggest makeup trends of the year, through what they have on their faces. “You can say that the political landscape is affecting this, but there seems to be a need for escape. There is a need for fantasy when it comes to makeup.”
Whether it’s Tiktok’s “unapproximate makeup” tendency or not, make-up artists, who are famous to appear in real life or return to the charm of old Hollywood, see people take a strong perspective on their beauty choices. “People want to have their own personality [reflect] Makeup details,” says Luna.
However, personality and fantasy don’t have to mean over the top make-up. In fact, this spring, makeup artists are discovering that people are more intentional than ever. “But at the end of the day, they don’t want to look like they’re wearing a lot of makeup.”
This means placing a strong emphasis on skin and defined eyes and refraining from adding specific elements. This is the makeup equivalent to the “getting one thing off” rule in fashion. “I think there’s a liner with winged, but there’s no mascara, a beautiful blushing look with no foundation, or a lip liner in a place without lipstick,” says makeup artist Carissa Ferreri. “Maybe you haven’t seen it on the red carpet, but in real life, people are pulling back the product. This is a different approach to how we think about makeup.”
The word “trend” is becoming less and less in this fast-paced, algorithm-based beauty world, and Spring 2025 makeup is something that feels good with you. “The market is saturated with all these incredible products, but how do you adjust it to your needs?” Martin says. “It’s about personality.
