Glycation, a biochemical process that accelerates skin aging, has attracted the attention of dermatology and aesthetic medicine. Environmental factors such as UV rays, pollution and blue light are widely recognized as contributors to aging, but glycation remains an underestimated but important cause of visible skin degradation.

The natural process, which is exacerbated by poor diet, environmental factors, and aging, “binds with proteins such as collagen and elastin, forming harmful substances called cured proteins (AGEs),” and involves Dr. Vivian Bousei of the Dermatology Center forming Vivian Busel to induce for skin therapy.

This, she said, provides visible signs of aging that compromises the youthful look of the skin, such as dullness, uneven texture and redness.

Glycated collagen accumulates at an estimated rate of 3.7% per year, making the intervention an attractive option due to its beauty from consumers, she added.

Biorewind & Glycation Management

One new solution to addressing glycation is Biorwind from Skinbetter Science. This is a recently launched dietary supplement designed to alleviate age formation. A key element in Biorewind’s formulation is its unique Corextract Biotechnology, featuring optimized rosemary leaf extracts.

Dr. Bucay says that Co-factor-optimized rosemary extract (Corextract) “contains natural rosmarinic acid and other synergistic antioxidants, which are preserved and optimized through a multi-sequence extraction process.”

She noted that this biooptimized extract shows greater efficacy in reversal of glycation than rosmarinic acid alone, and that the formula also contains no gluten, colorants or dyes.

Complement your topical skin care regimen

Consumer interest in ingestable beauty products continues to rise, reflecting a shift towards a more holistic approach to skincare. Nutritional supplements like Biorewind offer a complementary approach to enhancing outcomes for individuals following topical skin care routines.

“Consumers see a more holistic view of beauty,” Dr. Busei pointed out. “Instead of chasing lines and wrinkles, they are interested in beauty from within,” she adds, and as a result, “more than ever, my colleagues and I are talking about including supplements as part of their daily lives with patients.”

Research and clinical findings

Further data on the effectiveness of Biorewind is Journal of Clinical and Gyestetic Dermatology. Dr. Bucay highlighted key points from the research, particularly the results of the 12-week clinical research.

“There are some details worth noting, but the most influential was the 12-week survey results that showed a 17% improvement in global skin quality compared to baseline measurements, and a significant improvement in coarse texture and dullness,” she explained.

As research continues on glycation and skin health effects, the role of ingestible solutions like Biorewind will expand, offering new opportunities for skincare professionals and manufacturers.

“The launch of Biorewind is an important milestone for Skinbetter Science and medical grade skincare,” Jonah Shacknai, CEO of Skinbetter Science, said at a press conference.

“With Biorewind, we are introducing a new approach to combating skin aging by addressing glycation, a lesser known but very important factor in the skin aging process.
