Valor is a truly unique blend of black spruce, frankincense, blue tansy, and rosewood. Valor can be applied topically, diffused, and even used as a perfume or cologne. This article provides a recipe for making your own Valor blend. This Valor essential oil blend recipe takes minutes to make. It also comes with a roll-on recipe for on-the-go use.
As an avid essential oil user, I diffuse daily. I love simply diffusing lavender, but I also love blending it myself. I started my essential oil journey with Young Living and loved many of their blends. After getting further along in my essential oil journey, I moved away from YL due to monthly purchase obligations, long shipping times, and high prices for each oil. Many essential oil companies replicate YL’s famous blends, but I’m a DIY person, so I like to make my own. Additionally, I am not aware of Barrow Blends being available from other companies.

What is Barrow Essential Oil Blend?
Valor is a beautiful blend of essential oils meant to boost your confidence and help align your chakras. Black Spruce, Blue Tansy, Frankincense, and Rosewood are an aromatic blend that creates a sweet herbal scent that’s perfect for diffusing. Valor is called “liquid courage” because it is said to impart courage and bravery when applied or inhaled. Valor is a very gentle blend of oils that can be used on most sensitive skin types. Many people believe in the power of this essential oil blend and love its scent so much that they wear it as a perfume or cologne. I would say that courage is a strong scent that lasts all day long.

Exclusively formulated by Young Living founder D. Gary Young, Valor Blend is a perennial member favorite. Its unique formula is inspired by historical documents about Roman soldiers who are said to have applied botanical extracts and ingredients to inspire courage and confidence before going into battle.
Each Young Living essential oil in the blend is carefully selected for its unique aroma and topical benefits. Black spruce has an earthy, woody scent. Blue tansy is known for its pungent aroma. And now it’s rosewood, a calming and relaxing scent.

Ingredients of valor:
- black spruce are revealed and made public. It helps relieve mental and emotional blocks. An essential oil for grounding and balance. It is also used in my Christmas Spirit Blend recipe.
- frankincense It stimulates the limbic part of the brain, helping you focus on the positive and reduce negative thoughts and emotions. Although it is a powerful holy oil, it is also a very gentle oil.
- blue tansy A rare and powerful oil. It gets its name from its deep blue color and can stain the skin if used undiluted. Blue tansy has a very strong scent. It helps calm anger problems and strengthen self-control.
- rosewood It is also a grounding oil that promotes relaxation.

What you need to create a Valor Blend or Valor Roll On:
material
- 30 drops of spruce essential oil
- 14 drops of frankincense essential oil
- 12 drops of blue tansy essential oil
- 4 drops of rosewood essential oil or horwood essential oil
- 20 drops of carrier oil

- 5ml essential oil glass bottle
Instructions
- Place all essential oils in a 5ml glass bottle.
- Add a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, or grapeseed oil.
- Put the dropper back on and gently roll it between your hands to mix the oil.
Precautions
- This oil can be used topically or diffused.
- To diffuse, add 4-10 drops to a diffuser. Fill the diffuser with filtered water to the appropriate level and turn on the diffuser.

- 15 drops of black spruce essential oil
- 7 drops of frankincense essential oil
- 6 drops of blue tansy essential oil
- 2 drops of rosewood essential oil or horwood essential oil
- Finish with carrier oil

Instructions
- Add essential oils to the roll-on bottle.
- Add a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, or grapeseed oil.
- Replace the roller and cap and gently roll the bottle between your hands to spread the oil.
Precautions
- Roll on to the soles of your feet and the back of your neck to balance, align and soothe.
- Apply throughout the day to your neck and wrists as a confidence-boosting cologne.

Valor retails for $58.55. Young Living Website. You can do this on Amazon Buy Valor for $64.41. Based on this recipe Plant therapy fees. Each bottle of Homemade Valor costs approximately $13.20. If you purchase the 2.5 ml bottle I linked, you will only be able to make two bottles of Valor, but you will have a lot of product leftover from other materials for other projects.
A note about rosewood essential oil: I happened to have a very old rosewood bottle of Spark Naturals. However, the essential oil company I chose no longer offers rosewood. I think it will be difficult to procure. At some point, Young Living could no longer find a viable source and changed from rosewood to geranium. I read that Horwood essential oil is a good substitute for rosewood. I found some inexpensive rosewood options on Amazon, but I recommend using high quality horwood essential oil.
