What’s In My Mystery Makeup Bag?

I took a small makeup bag with me on an overnight trip a few months ago, but I forgot to unpack it when I got back from the trip. I found it by complete fluke last week when I went looking for a sticky clothes roller in the top section of my wardrobe. And there was a makeup bag that looked like a relic from another era.

I resisted the urge to open it right away and see what was inside, and instead decided to shoot it on film and shoot a makeup video to kill two birds with one stone. It’s like a makeup version of Ready Steady Cook! CThat would have been dangerous, because it seemed as if I had no idea what materials I would be working with, but at the same time, I tend to be a creature of habit when it comes to my beauty, so It wasn’t. When I unzipped my bag, I didn’t expect to find bright blue glitter eyeshadow and sticky fuchsia lip gloss…

Lo and behold, it’s all the usual suspects needed to create my signature “barely there” look, a look that’s slightly more refined, enhanced, and well-groomed than my normal face. It turned out to be. There are no dramatic changes.

But imagine my joy when I saw that inside my bag was a tube of probably one of my favorite makeup primers. forever. This is truly the best. Watch the video to see it in action – If you’re reading by email, here’s what you need to do: click here Click to open in your browser.

Kevin Aucoin strip nude skin tint. I don’t know why this has such a light texture yet is so creamy. It also has one of the most sophisticated blur and glow combinations I’ve ever seen, giving it a very fresh look. It glides on smoothly and provides enough coverage to even out skin tone, making it perfect for those who want the dewy effect of a tinted moisturizer but don’t want the overly slimy feel.

The Kevyn Aucoin Stripped Nude Skin Tint is currently available in several shades. Space NK*(They had all the shades on sale, but I was too far off the mark to get my ST04.) However, you can see the full lineup here: sephora*.

We know how much you love it, so we’re back with another proper skin tint review, including before and after photos. Especially when I zoomed in, I forgot to check for unwanted facial hair. I used Bobbi Brown’s full coverage brush (here*) I apply it in the video, but fingertips will work just as well and reduce product waste…

Other base products: The Rare Beauty Bronzing Stick (in the shade Happy Sol) is now a standard item in my makeup routine. I know he has 3 of them so he didn’t actually miss one after sleeping in the dark for months. Although I was one of the first to scoff at the trend of drawing brown lines across the face with a contour stick, I surrender! – I’ll admit that I understand the technique. The main reason is that many of my favorite bronzing products come in stick form, and that’s the most sensible way to apply them. Just draw like a toddler with a thick crayon.

The advantage of this is that you get the color accurately You can place it where you need it, and it’s easy to place along your cheekbone line or wherever you want to bronze/contour. (Draw the areas where the sun hits in bronze, Shadow ) Then use a brush to gently polish. Be careful not to disturb the foundation product underneath. Otherwise, the whole thing will be mottled.

By the way, as I mentioned in the video, all of these creams, sticks, and balms are great until you use them on top of a very slippery moisturizing base, and then you buff them out and they’re ready to use. . All together, everything falls perfectly into the pot. When you turn your eyes to the light to see your perfectly blended contour, you’ll see that half of your foundation is gone.

There are incredibly positive things to say about old school powder bronzers and blushes. What it does mean is that it not only lathers lightly on the skin, but can actually set that layer in place without disturbing the perfectly applied layer underneath. . Just as you can use translucent powder to set your nose, chin, and forehead, colorful bronzers and blushes can help make the rest of your face last longer. If that’s your bag and you need more longevity…

My precious Veeve eye wand was also in this bag. – Once again, I’m back to the topic of cream products that I doodle like a grown child, but bear with me. Because I can’t live without these Eye Ones. There are a lot of them from different brands, but somehow Vieve’s coffee shade fits perfectly. It’s a deep brown that’s not too metallic and just enough to create a sexy smoke, but not so deep that it’ll scare the neighbors if you don’t blend it properly.

It’s soft and blends easily and beautifully, so there’s little chance of making a mistake, but it needs to be done relatively quickly. Give it some time and it will set well, so you will need a good eye makeup remover. Please turn it off before going to bed. I like to use it to draw a short, stubby line from the outer corner of my eye to the inner corner of my eyebrow (see the demo video, it’s about 11 minutes) and then blur it out. It tricks the eye into lifting a little. I used to use eyeliner to draw more precise little wedge shapes, but to be honest, this method with a thicker crayon takes half the time and gives about the same results. The aim of this game is to avoid drooping eyes in the corners (if you also have this problem) and create a little optical illusion where the eyes look upwards, making you look more optimistic and cheerful .

Banzai!

The mascara is L’Oreal’s nostalgic telescopic mascara. I’ve never repurchased makeup products so many times, at least for me. Lengthen and separate fair and thin eyelashes to make them look more beautiful. This is not a “stripper lash” mascara, nor is it really a “false eyelash effect” unless you tend to choose something very subtle (I haven’t worn it in years), but for me makes a huge difference. And the best part is that a) it adheres well and b) it’s easy to remove with regular cleansing balms or creams. No special remover required.

Completed the look. If you can call me that (I need to change the name…) polishing routine) Apply a little lip liner (rare beauty*) and lip oil balm ipsum.

Part of the fun of having short hair is tossing it up randomly (the messier, the better), and you’re done with a low-key doll-up. It gives a slight lift to the eyes, restores the contour of the lips, and gives a glossy, sheer skin base that looks like really good skin. It looks exactly like my bag.

(I used Beauty Pie) diagonal cheek brush* Buff with cheek product and Charlotte Tilbury Smudger Brush over eyes. If you watch the video and see my cheeks fail with blushers and you like the color and intensity, then that’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Her Blush. peach pop*. My cardigan is an old Me + Em. )
