When you think of hair oils that promote healthy hair, baobab oil probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But baobab oil is becoming a hidden gem and the hair hack you never knew you needed.

Baobab oil also acts as a great moisturizer for both hair and skin. A plant-based oil native to tropical Africa, rich in omega fatty acids (such as linoleic acid, which helps lock in moisture in your hair), antioxidants, and healthy nutrients such as vitamins A, C, D, E, and F. It is. It has many benefits for your hair, including moisturizing extremely dry hair, smoothing frizz, and healing damaged hair.

Intrigued? Keep learning why baobab oil is a must-have in your hair care product stash.

What are the benefits of baobab oil?

#1: Moisturizes dry hair

If your hair is extremely dry and damaged, baobab oil will give your hair much-needed moisture. Its moisturizing properties reach every corner of the scalp and help heal damaged hair follicles. This oil is composed of omega fatty acids 3, 6, and 9, making it one of the most moisturizing oils on the market. Baobab oil is great for people with dry hair and is definitely a must-have for anyone with type 3 or type 4 hair, which is more prone to dryness than other hair types.

#2: Helps detangle

Baobab oil is also a great detangler. It has an acid profile consisting of one-third saturated fat, one-third monounsaturated fat, and one-third polyunsaturated fat. When these fats penetrate the hair cuticle, they separate knots and sections that are stuck together, leaving your hair soft and smooth. Our wide tooth cloud comb helps remove knots and tangles.

#3: Repairs itchy and flaky scalp

Baobab oil is also a great product for repairing itchy, flaky scalps and dandruff. If untreated, the scalp can host harmful bacteria and cause excessive hair loss, but regular use of baobab oil can prevent harmful bacteria from dying in their tracks. Anti-inflammatory properties also help fight inflamed scalp. Baobab oil is great for people with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, which often cause irritation to the scalp.

Protects hair (and skin) from air pollution and UV rays.
Let’s be honest, most of our environments are in full crisis mode. However, baobab oil provides an extra layer of protection for both hair and skin. It also has an insulating effect, protecting your hair from extreme cold or warmth.

#4: Don’t put stress on your hair

Have you ever applied oil to your hair and found it becomes greasy and heavy? Baobab oil does exactly the opposite. It deeply moisturizes your hair, giving it a light, natural, soft and silky finish.

#5: Great for promoting hair growth

Baobab oil contains amazing amounts of collagen, which helps your hair build up keratin protein, which is the key to hair growth. Whether you can’t seem to grow your hair past a certain length or you’ve recently had a “big cut,” Baobab oil will help your hair grow back in no time. If you want to accelerate the growth process, use a length-repairing hair mask at least once a week.

#6: Helps strengthen hair

Baobab oil can help strengthen and rejuvenate your hair, especially if it has become weak and brittle due to chemical damage. Being rich in vitamins and nutrients, it helps replenish hair cells, which not only strengthens your hair but also promotes hair growth as mentioned above.

#7: Good for your skin

Because baobab oil is rich in collagen, it has excellent anti-aging properties that reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is rich in vitamin C, so it is effective not only for your hair but also for your skin. It helps reduce age spots and pigmentation that are often caused by acne scars. It also helps balance the production of natural oils that your skin produces. This is a great advantage because excessively oily skin can lead to severe acne breakouts.

#8: The best serum for your eyes

Whether it’s due to genetics or lack of sleep, many of us suffer from dark circles, puffy eyes, and eye bags. Baobab oil brightens the under eye area and reduces puffiness.

#9: Strengthen your immune system
Since our bodies cannot naturally produce vitamin C, eating baobab fruit can meet one-third of your recommended vitamin C intake.

How can I apply baobab oil to my hair?

Baobab oil can be applied to your hair in a variety of ways: as a pre-shampoo treatment, with other hair oils, as a conditioning treatment, or as a leave-in cream.

pre-shampoo treatment

Baobab oil can be used as a pre-shampoo (also called pre-poo) treatment for your hair. Those with curly hair textures know that using the right treatment before shampooing can cut hair washing time in half.

We loved this ingredient so much that we decided to add it to our Luminous Hair Oil Treatment, which contains a blend of Baobab Oil, Coconut Oil, and Kukui Nut Oil, to add even more shine.

To apply baobab oil as a pre-shampoo treatment, heat it in a bowl in the microwave for about 30 seconds. When ready, apply warm oil from root to tip. Just like your regular pre-shampoo treatment, leave it on your hair for up to 30 minutes, put on a shower cap to heat your hair and seal in the product, then rinse and move on to the next step. Regular shampoo routine.

If you’re looking for extreme moisture, you can also leave the oil on overnight, apply a head wrap for protection, and wash and shampoo as normal in the morning. We recommend using a charcoal detox shampoo to give your hair a firm and clear look.

Baobab oil + coconut oil treatment

Coconut oil is definitely the veteran among all hair and skin oils. When you combine baobab oil and coconut oil, you create the most beautiful, shiny, and shine hair oil that your hair will thank you for later. To achieve these amazing results, mix one-third coconut oil and one-third baobab oil in a bowl and heat for about 30 seconds, just as we recommended in the pre-shampoo treatment. Next, separate your hair into four sections (tortoise clips are great for this!) and apply a mixture of baobab and coconut oil from the roots to the tips of your hair. Leave the mixture on your hair for no more than 45 minutes, then rinse, shampoo, and style your hair as usual with your favorite hair extensions.

Baobab oil conditioner treatment

Baobab oil can also be used as a conditioner due to its powerful moisturizing properties. Apply baobab oil to your hair instead of your regular conditioner, leave it on for 10 minutes, and then wash it off. You can also mix your favorite high-shine smoothing conditioner with about a quarter of baobab oil for soft, bouncy hair.

Baobab oil + leave-in cream

So far, we have shown you how to apply baobab oil and wash it off to give your hair plenty of moisture. But did you know that you can also apply baobab oil after washing and conditioning your hair? Baobab oil is a great mixture to apply to damp or dry hair in addition to a leave-in conditioning treatment. Mix about 1 part baobab oil and leave-in conditioner, apply the mixture to freshly washed hair, and style as usual for beautiful, silky hair.
