Friends, why is it so hard to find decent work pants?
I did some math recently and it’s been about 15 years since I had to buy work pants. It’s very challenging right now!
I don’t think it’s too much to ask for pants that are comfortable, not too tight, look professional, and have fabric that feels good against your skin.
Oh, and as a petite person, I also have the added challenge of finding pants that aren’t too long. As a side note, from experience I never take my pants to a tailor if they need hemmed. And the pants will stay that length for years and never be worn. Sigh.
What about pockets? Normally, this is a must-have item for me, but I’ve had a hard time finding pants that I don’t hate, so I’m ready to part with them! lol.
(By the way, I start a new job next week.)
Anyway, a while back I ordered a bunch of seemingly cute petite pants from a few different places (GAP, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, some random brands at Nordstrom), but they were either too short or too long. I returned everything. The fabric was itchy and the pockets were weird.
I ended up ordering some pants and dark jeans online from Madewell, and I’m going to try my best and hope they fit well.
I bought their jeans about six months ago and they’re the only pants I’ve tried in years that fit perfectly.
I purchased the Madewell pants below in a petite size, but for reference, most cuts are also available in standard, plus, and tall sizes. For your reference if you are interested.
- Petite Harlow Wide Leg Pants – I love the look of these pants because they can easily be dressed up or down. They are machine washable and dryable and come in many colors. I chose a dark navy and dark gray plaid pattern.
- Caronia wash petite perfect wide leg jeans – The last time I worked in an office, dark jeans could pass as work pants, as long as you wore a professional sweater, shirt, or jacket on top. I love the color, loose fit, and wide legs of these jeans.
- petit perfect vintage jeans – Dark jeans again! I bought this because many comments said it was soft and comfortable.
I hope something about these work pants fits properly and doesn’t look too weird. It should arrive in the mail soon, so I hope everything goes well. Otherwise, you’ll end up showing up on your first day wearing black stretchy pants and a blazer.
If you have any suggestions for work pants, please help the cat lady who is currently not wearing pants.
